The Unsung Believer

Have you ever been the recipient of or the gift from an anonymous giver? Have you ever anonymously paid for someone’s food ? Did you keep that secret to yourself or did you tell someone?

If you can identify with any of the people in the Bible who would it be? Would it be the notable names that went on and did great things for the faith as mentioned in Hebrews 11 or would you be one of the countless unnamed others who were commissioned to do Gods will through their occupation and actions?

I admit it is really fun to think about which disciple or which father or matriarch do you feel most drawn to. However for those of us who don’t feel called to a major office in the church, there is hope! Think about the countless number of people that attended sermons in the Bible, were obedient to a call, occupation, command, request, etc…. Where’s their credit at? It’s with God.

We won’t always be guaranteed a mentioned on record but keep in mind that God keeps a record (a book) of rights.

The 72 that Jesus sent to spread the gospel

Luke 10:1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.

The good Samaritan in the parable

Luke 10:33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him

The people who allowed the disciples to take the colt for Jesus’ entrance to the city.

Matthew 21:2-3 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

(There are many more unsung hero examples)

For the person reading this message:
Whether you got a thank you from your recipient (s) or not…

On behalf of the gospel, I say thank you. Your faith has works, it was not in vein and it is surely alive! God knows your name.

Peace and power,

Deacon Tony Bennett
